# About DNS Autopilot

## What it is

DNS Autopilot is a free domain health check and a monitor. [The free check](https://dnsautopilot.com/check) needs no sign-up. In about three seconds it gives any domain a score from 0 to 100, from more than 40 checks in five areas (email authentication, mail servers, mail in transit, DNS security, and domain and web, weighted 35, 20, 15, 15, and 15), and shows the exact record to publish for each fix. Each visitor can run 20 checks an hour.

Monitoring starts with a free account. It re-checks a domain every day, keeps its score history, and reads the domain's DMARC aggregate reports to show which senders fail and when the domain is safe to move to p=reject. It sends alerts when something breaks and a weekly digest. Reports come from Gmail (read-only, only DMARC report mail) or from the account's own report address.

It is for small businesses, and for the agencies and IT teams that run their email.

## Who builds it

DNS Autopilot is built and run by [agntwrk](https://agntwrk.com), a software studio in Denver.

## How the guides are written

The guides on the blog are written by the DNS Autopilot team. Each one is checked against the standard it describes (the RFCs for SPF, DKIM, DMARC, MTA-STS, and TLS-RPT) and against what the free check actually tests, and is updated when a standard or a mailbox provider's rules change. The date at the top of a guide is the last time its content changed.

## How the check works

[The check page](https://dnsautopilot.com/check) explains what it tests and how the score is calculated. AI assistants and scripts can fetch any domain's report as Markdown at `https://dnsautopilot.com/check/<domain>.md`, for example `https://dnsautopilot.com/check/example.com.md`.
